The Shri Amarnath Yatra was suspended from Jammu towards Srinagar and Baltal on Sunday amid adverse weather conditions and ongoing restoration work on the pilgrimage tracks.
Officials said no fresh convoy of pilgrims was allowed to proceed from Jammu towards the base camps following recent rainfall, damage to the tracks and forecasts of further adverse weather.
However, pilgrims who had already performed darshan at the holy cave were permitted to return towards Jammu.
According to the Joint Police Control Room, Baltal, a total of 588 pilgrims, including 435 men, 83 women, four children and 66 sadhus, were travelling towards Jammu in 53 vehicles on Sunday morning.
The down convoy was moving through the Ramban-Banihal sector of National Highway-44 towards Jammu when reports last came in.
Authorities have ordered suspension of the pilgrimage from both the Baltal and Pahalgam routes from August 9 in view of recent rains, damage to the tracks and the forecast of unfavourable weather conditions.
The Yatra is expected to resume only after conditions improve and the affected tracks are declared safe for movement.
