Two Cooperative Registrar Officials Arrested for Bribery in Thane RS 60,000 Bribe Accepted for Housing Society Approval

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested two officials from a cooperative registrar’s office for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹60,000 to grant approval for a cooperative housing society in Maharashtra’s Thane district, police reported on Saturday, January 1, 2025.

The Arrest

Acting on a complaint, the ACB laid a trap and arrested assistant registrar Chetan Chowdhary (32) and junior clerk Vijay Singh Patil (44) under the Prevention of Corruption Act, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Thane ACB, Madhavi Rajekumbhar, stated.

The Bribery Demand

According to the ACB, Patil initially demanded ₹70,000 for himself and his seniors to approve the formation of a cooperative housing society. After negotiations, the amount was reduced to ₹60,000. The duo was caught red-handed accepting the bribe.

Legal Proceedings

A case has been registered against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and an investigation is underway to uncover further details and possible connections.
