PM Modi: Jammu & Kashmir Youth Empowered by New Train Services

Prime Minister Narendra Modi acknowledged the remarkable potential of the youth in Jammu and Kashmir during his recent address. He emphasized that the newly introduced train services from the Valley significantly enhance trade movements across the region.

This statement came during Modi’s interaction with progressive farmers from across India at the launch of the PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana, a new scheme worth ₹24,000 crore aimed at elevating agricultural productivity and promoting sustainable farming practices.

Among those participating was Fayaz Ahmad Ganaie, a successful farmer from Ganderbal district. He credited the benefits of various government schemes for his impressive growth.

“I’ve come from Kashmir. I saw your progressive schemes for farmers and benefitted from them. Today, I have 14 employees and earn around ₹15 lakh in profits annually,” Ganaie shared with enthusiasm.

In response, the Prime Minister remarked, “The youth of Jammu and Kashmir have immense strength. With the train services now operational, goods are flowing quickly from the Kashmir valley.”

Notably, these goods train services commenced operations directly from New Delhi to Kashmir. They allow the transport of vehicles, apples, and other fruits directly to and from Srinagar for the first time.

During the event, PM Modi encouraged farmers to gradually adopt natural farming techniques. He urged them to test these methods on small plots to boost confidence and witness tangible benefits. Many farmers reflected on their positive experiences after earlier interactions with him.

A woman farmer one among those applauding the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme described the annual support of ₹6,000 as “a blessing,” stating it helped her purchase seeds and prepare her fields on time. Additionally, other farmers showcased innovations such as aeroponically grown “Jain potato” and value-added garlic products like paste and powder.

PM Modi highlighted India’s agricultural accomplishments over the past 11 years. Agricultural exports have nearly doubled, and food grain production has surged by 90 million metric tonnes.

Furthermore, he noted that fruit and vegetable production has grown by 64 million metric tonnes, with India now ranking first in milk production, standing as the second-largest fish producer globally, and experiencing a doubling in honey production since 2014.

He also announced that over 10,000 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) have been established, aiming to bolster farmer cooperation and enhance market access.

Modi elaborated that the inspiration behind the PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana stems from the success of the Aspirational Districts Model. He confirmed the government’s commitment to empowering farmers through innovation, technology, and holistic growth.
