PDP’s Waheed Para Slams Giriraj Singh’s ‘Terrorist’ Claim

PDP leader Waheed Para condemned Union Minister Giriraj Singh for labeling former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti as a “terrorist.” Para described Singh’s comments as “outrageous” and “irresponsible” during a press interaction on Wednesday.

“Giriraj Singh’s remarks are beneath the dignity of a Union Minister,” said Para. “Such language directed at a former chief minister and a senior Muslim woman leader illustrates nothing but prejudice and political intolerance.” He expressed his views through a post on social media platform X, emphasizing the inappropriateness of the rhetoric.

Singh, who represents the BJP, made the controversial remarks while discussing his perception of Mufti’s political alignment. He stated that Mufti, who leads the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), “has always supported terrorists.”

Furthermore, Singh claimed that the BJP had attempted to reform the PDP during their alliance but felt compelled to distance themselves due to a lack of progress. “Since there was no improvement, we let her go,” Singh remarked.

Para countered Singh’s assertions, indicating that the minister’s comments reflect his biases more than any credible political stance. “This is not merely a political statement; it is a reflection of Giriraj Singh’s own mindset,” he asserted.

Interestingly, this escalating controversy comes on the heels of a recent incident involving Mufti. During a protest against the abrogation of Article 370, she attracted considerable media attention by holding the national flag upside down, a gesture that sparked debate across political circles.

The remarks from Singh and the ensuing backlash highlight the charged atmosphere in political discourse in India, particularly regarding issues surrounding Kashmir and terrorism. Observers suggest that Singh’s comments might deepen existing political divides.

Political analysts comment that such inflammatory rhetoric not only impacts the individuals involved but also contributes to a hostile political environment. By labeling opponents with extreme terms, politicians risk alienating sections of society that may feel targeted.

The controversy is still unfolding, making it crucial for political leaders to engage in productive dialogue. As public sentiment continues to evolve, political figures must navigate with care to avoid exacerbating tensions.
