Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Saturday that the cost of properties damaged during the recent Nagpur violence will be recovered from the rioters. Those who fail to pay will face seizure and auctioning of their properties to compensate for the losses.
Legal Action Against Rioters
Addressing a press conference, Fadnavis stated that 104 rioters have been identified so far through CCTV footage analysis, and action has been taken against 92 individuals, including 12 minors, as per the law.
PM Modi’s Visit Unaffected
Fadnavis assured that the scheduled visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not be impacted by the violence that erupted on Monday in central Nagpur areas.
Strong Action Against Police Attackers
The Chief Minister warned of strict action against rioters who attacked police personnel.
“My government will not rest until those who attacked the police are identified and dealt with sternly,” Fadnavis asserted.
Probe Continues: No Foreign Link Confirmed Yet
On allegations of foreign involvement, Fadnavis said it is too early to comment on any Bangladeshi connection, as the investigation is still underway.
Clarification on Police Attacks
Fadnavis also clarified that female police constables were attacked with stones but were not molested, dismissing such claims.
Not an Intelligence Failure, But Scope for Improvement
The Chief Minister acknowledged that while the incident cannot be termed an intelligence failure, intelligence gathering could have been better to prevent the unrest.
The Maharashtra government remains firm on holding rioters accountable, ensuring law and order, and bringing perpetrators to justice.
