J&K Constable Arrested for Hitting Officer with Vehicle

A police constable was arrested on Monday for injuring a Station House Officer (SHO) in Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir. The incident occurred late Sunday evening near the Bijbehara police station while the officer was on duty.

Officials confirmed that selection-grade constable Khurshid Ahmad Wani, son of Mohd Abdullah Wani, drove his vehicle at high speed and hit SHO Majid Ahmad Khan. Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle overspeeding moments before the collision.

The police took immediate action, apprehending Wani in the Kokernag area of the district. His vehicle, bearing the registration number JK16A-3739, has been seized as part of the investigation.

Authorities have expressed concern regarding the conduct of law enforcement personnel behind the wheel, emphasizing the need for strict adherence to traffic regulations. Driving rashly while on duty not only jeopardizes the lives of fellow officers but also undermines public trust in the police.

While Wani remains in custody, police are conducting a thorough questioning process to ascertain the full details surrounding the incident. Wani’s actions could lead to severe departmental consequences, as officials continue to emphasize accountability among their ranks.

This arrest serves as a reminder of the importance of safe driving practices, especially for individuals entrusted with upholding law and order. The incident not only raises urgent questions about road safety measures in Jammu and Kashmir but also highlights the responsibilities that come with being a member of the police force.
