Javed Rana slams Govt’s hollow claims of development
LG should initiate inquiry into road projects
MENDHAR, Nov 4: Javed Ahmed Rana, President Pir Panjal Zone of J&K National Conference (NC) and former Legislator, asked the present government to stop making hollow claims of unprecedented development in Jammu and Kashmir and instead surrender before the general public for its failure to deliver.
Addressing media persons here, the NC leader strongly criticized the claims made by the Commissioner Secretary, Road & Building Department, during his recent visit to Rajouri.
“The Commissioner Secretary has made tall claims of unprecedented development in J&K post abrogation of Article 370. However, the reality on the ground is completely different,” the NC leader said.
He asserted that the incumbent government has failed to deliver on its promises of development. Presently, the roads in J&K, especially in Mendhar, are in a deplorable condition,” he added.
The NC leader specifically mentioned the roads in Maidan Pathanateer, Sakhi Maidan Kalai, Pathanateer Gursai, Surankote Mendhar (Gursai Mendhar to Jaranwali Gali), Sagra-Ghani, Gursai Nala to Middle Gursai, and 18th km Suran Mendhar Road to Middle Gursai, which are in a very bad state.
He asked the Commissioner Secretary to call for the physical and financial report of all the roads constructed under NABARD and PMGSY in Mendhar in the last five years.
The senior leader also brought to light alleged irregularities, stating that many works are still being allotted to contractors without due process. He alleged that the government is still allotting works to contractors on a departmental basis. “The government should stop this practice and start allotting works through open tenders,” he demanded.
The NC leader urged the Lieutenant Governor of J&K to initiate an inquiry against the aforesaid road projects.
“The inquiry should be conducted by an independent agency and the findings should be made public,” he said.
“The government should also take action against the officials responsible for the poor condition of roads in J&K,” the NC leader added.
