1. • Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi criticized the imposition of President’s Rule in Manipur, calling it a reflection of the collective failure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP leadership in the Northeast.

     Political Criticism:

     • Gogoi, the Congress deputy leader in the Lok Sabha, stated that the President’s Rule came after Chief Minister N Biren Singh resigned, with the state assembly being suspended. He emphasized that the lack of a roadmap for peace and reconciliation in Manipur is a key issue.

       • He suggested that the President’s Rule was imposed due to the BJP’s disarray in the state, pointing out that the people of Manipur and India deserved better leadership.

         Ethnic Violence in Manipur:

         • The ethnic violence in Manipur, which began in May 2023, involved clashes between the majority Meitei community in Imphal Valley and the Kuki-Zo tribal groups in the surrounding hills. The violence resulted in over 250 deaths and displaced thousands of people.
