SURANKOTE, 31 Dec: Commissioner State Taxes, J&K, Dr Rashmi Singh chaired a meeting of the STO’s to review the pace of target achieved by enforcement wings and Circles of twin districts of Rajouri-Poonch range.
Deputy Commissioner Enforcement wing Samba, Sanjay Gupta, State Tax Officer Enforcement Rajouri-Poonch range, Ashiq Rafiq Malik, Pervaiz Wani, STO Circle Poonch, Waheed Ahmed, STO Circle Rajouri Farooq Choudhary and other officials attended the meeting.
During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner State Taxes Enforcement Samba, informed the chair that the department has taken several initiatives to achieve the targets allocated to Enforcement and Circles. He gave an overview regarding use of data and analytics tools for curbing the tax evasion.
It was given out that 13 vehicles were detained in the Month of December and penalty amounting to the tune of Rs 1403503 has imposed and recovered from tax evaders. Around 1.69 crores penalty has been imposed and recovered in this F.Y. 2023-24. Furthermore the revenue Target achieved are 28% and 38% higher as compared to previous year in Circle Poonch and Rajouri respectively.
Inspections of industries were also carried out and reports in 116 cases of budgetary support under SRO 63, SRO 519 and SRO 521 to industrial units in Samba phase 1 and phase 2 have been submitted in FY 23-24 so far.
In addition to this, two STOs were appointed as Nodal officers for spot verification/sale suppression/Non filers/Nil filers and unregistered dealers by Commissioner State Taxes. They have conducted spot verifications of 130 registered dealers and 30 unregistered dealers since 08.12.23 and 10 registered dealers were identified as non-filers and notices were issued to them. Also 5 unregistered dealers were prima facie found to cross the threshold limit. Those were directed to obtain registration and the details were also shared with higher authorities.
It is pertinent to mention here that Commissioner State Taxes, J&K also carried out surprise inspection of vehicles randomly during night hours at Sunderbani, Rajouri-Poonch highway. Vehicles carrying sand, bricks, milk products etc were intercepted and inspected and tax invoices and E way bills were verified, where prima facie, no discrepancies were found
Commissioner State Taxes also discussed the challenges faced by the departments and sought suggestions from the officials to overcome them. She encouraged open and honest dialogue, creating an environment of transparency and accountability and also directed all the officers to the targets by or before 31st March 2024 and stressed that the GST Act, 2017 should be followed in letter and spirit.
