Cloudburst Causes Damage in Kishtwar’s Chatroo Area

A powerful cloudburst struck the Chatroo area of Kishtwar district in Jammu and Kashmir early Saturday morning, wreaking havoc by damaging multiple houses and structures. The incident took place around 2:30 a.m., shortly after a spell of heavy rainfall.

Officials reported that while the cloudburst caused substantial property damage, fortunately, there have been no casualties or injuries reported to date. The local administration quickly mobilized to assess damages and provide relief.

The Station House Officer (SHO) of Chatroo led a response team comprised of police and civil administration to the affected region. They began conducting damage assessments and coordinating relief efforts for those impacted by the sudden deluge.

Throughout Jammu and Kashmir, this cloudburst coincided with ongoing moderate to heavy rainfall. The Meteorological Department had predicted intense showers likely across the Jammu division, issuing warnings about potential flash floods, landslides, and mudslides in vulnerable areas.

Consequently, in a separate event resulting from heavy rains, significant waterlogging affected residents in the Pahlipora area of Shopian district in south Kashmir. Local authorities reported that rainwater had flooded several homes, prompting a swift response from police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to assist in rescue and relief operations.

Given the precarious weather conditions, officials urged residents—especially those in low-lying and landslide-prone areas—to exercise caution. Authorities recommend avoiding proximity to streams, nallahs, and unstable slopes until weather conditions improve.

As the situation evolves, officials are closely monitoring developments in Chatroo, and further updates are expected. Emergency response teams remain on standby to handle any additional incidents arising from the ongoing weather challenges.

Residents are advised to stay tuned to local announcements as authorities continue to provide guidance during this tumultuous weather period. The community’s safety remains a priority as relief and restoration efforts progress in the affected areas.
