Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar announced that the Bihar Assembly elections will proceed in two distinct phases, set for November 6 and 11. The counting of votes is scheduled for November 14, with the entire election process concluding by November 16.
During a press conference, Kumar characterized the upcoming Bihar elections as the “mother of all elections”. He stressed the critical importance of transparency and smooth functioning in all constituencies throughout the election.
The Election Commission plans a detailed schedule where 121 Assembly constituencies will hold elections in the first phase on November 6, followed by 122 constituencies in the second phase on November 11.
“It is mandatory to complete counting of postal ballots before the last two rounds of counting of votes,” stated CEC Gyanesh Kumar.
Through this process, officials aim to ensure an efficient electoral mechanism that upholds democratic principles.
The nomination process runs alongside these dates. For the first phase, candidates must file their nominations by October 17. Following this, scrutiny will occur on October 18, and candidates can withdraw their nominations until October 20. The second phase follows a similar timeline, with nominations closing on October 20, scrutiny on October 21, and the last date for withdrawal falling on October 23.
This round of elections holds significance as the term of the current Bihar Legislative Assembly concludes on November 22, paving the way for a fresh mandate.
Bihar stands with a total of 243 Assembly constituencies, which includes two reserved for Scheduled Tribes (ST) and 38 reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC). This broad representation underscores the importance of inclusivity in the electoral process.
