Opposition MPs Protest Theft of Ram Temple Donations in Parliament

Opposition MPs, including Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, protested in the Parliament House complex on Tuesday against the alleged theft of donations at the Ram temple in Ayodhya and police excesses against student protesters.

The MPs carried placards and rallied in front of the Makar Dwar of Parliament, chanting slogans such as ‘chhanda chor, gaddi chor’ and ‘Amit Shah jawaab do’. They stood united in their demand for answers regarding the purported misappropriation of funds meant for the Ram temple.

To emphasize their message, the MPs placed donation boxes at the protest site to symbolize the alleged theft. They lined up around these boxes, raising slogans and drawing attention to the issue. Some participants even placed cash into the boxes to represent the donations made and the subsequent theft they argue took place.

Significant figures in this protest included Priyanka Gandhi, along with leaders like SP’s Dimple Yadav and Dharmendra Yadav, TMC’s Sagarika Ghose, RJD’s Sanjay Yadav, and Manoj Jha, as well as RSP’s N.K. Premchandran. This diverse alliance underscored a collective effort from various political spectra against what they deem “government inaction”.

The protesting MPs gathered behind a large banner proclaiming ‘Why Amit Shah absent from Parliament’ and voiced their grievances against the Home Minister. Their choice of slogans reflected a unifying demand for accountability from the government.

The INDIA bloc, comprising multiple opposition parties, has taken a firm stance to interrogate the government regarding two primary issues: the alleged “chhanda chori” (donation theft) at the Ram temple and the brutal police response to student protests last week.

To strategize their approach, the floor leaders of the INDIA bloc convened in the office of Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge. During this gathering, they reiterated their commitment to highlight the instances of alleged financial improprieties related to the Ram temple and the excessive force deployed against the protesting students.

This protest comes at a critical time when the Opposition seeks to rally public sentiment in their favor, as issues surrounding accountability and transparency within the government become focal points. With allegations of wrongdoing regarding the Ram temple donations, coupled with the students facing police brutality, this rally serves as a pivotal moment for the Opposition.

The opposition leaders aim to maintain the pressure on the government, linking the alleged donation theft to broader conversations about integrity, civic rights, and the treatment of dissenters in India.

As the events unfold, the response from the government will likely shape the future course of protest among various groups, including students who are deeply affected by recent police actions. The drive for accountability not only encompasses the Ram temple funds but also raises significant questions about democratic rights and governmental authority.
