Sunil Dimple Rejects BJP’s Statement on J&K Statehood and Assembly Elections

Jammu, May 27: In a press conference held at the Press Club, Sunil Dimple, president of Mission Statehood, outrightly rejected the statement made by BJP Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir statehood following assembly elections. Dimple, who has been actively fighting for the restoration of J&K statehood from the streets to the Supreme Court, described Shah’s statement as “mesmerising and misleading.”
Dimple criticised the BJP, stating that the promise of restoring statehood after the assembly elections is merely a tactic to lure voters and is neither trustworthy nor acceptable. He pointed out that the people of J&K have witnessed many such promises from the BJP over the past decade.
Dimple emphasised that the Supreme Court has already ruled in favour of holding assembly elections in J&K and restoring its statehood. He declared that the BJP cannot prevent the restoration of statehood and the conduct of assembly elections, as mandated by the Supreme Court’s Chief Justice of India.
He firmly rejected the idea of restoring statehood after the elections, insisting that J&K statehood should be restored before any assembly elections are held. Dimple accused the BJP of making hollow statements to mislead the public and called on all political parties and the people of Jammu and Kashmir to reject the BJP’s formula outright.
Dimple announced that the alliance parties of India will meet after the results on June 4 to strategize for the assembly elections with the aim of keeping the BJP out of J&K. He expressed confidence that the alliance’s candidates will win all six MP seats in Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh, signalling a significant shift away from the BJP.
Dimple also criticised the BJP’s actions on August 5, 2019, regarding the abrogation of Article 370, attributing the record voter turnout in J&K to public anger against these decisions. He predicted that this anger would be reflected in the upcoming assembly elections.
In his concluding remarks, Dimple reiterated his commitment to continue the struggle for Articles 370 and 35-A and the implementation of the conditions of the Instrument of Accession through political and judicial means. He demanded the immediate restoration of J&K statehood before the assembly elections.
